On this free tour of Altea, we'll discover this beautiful Mediterranean town with its white houses and bays that served as a refuge for pirates. You'll love it!
Description
At the scheduled time, we'll meet in front of the Altea City Hall to begin discovering the attractions of the coquette Mediterranean town. Do you know how the town got its name? We'll find out!
From there, we'll make our way towards the charming neighbourhood of Bellagaurda, immersed in picturesque white streets adorned with bougainvillaeas and flowers. Our first stop will be at the stunning Plaza de la Canterería, which recreates the first neighbourhood of Altea.
We'll head towards the neighbourhood, where the houses from the 18th century have been transformed into charming hotels, like Ca Salva, the first one to be built outside the walls. We'll go up to the Costera Pont del Montcau until we reach Plaza del Agua, the setting of cultural events, and we'll check out the Medieval water mill that has served the entire town since the 15th and 16th centuries.
This free tour of Altea will continue by going up to the Costera del Mestre la Música with its 255 steps until we reach the imposing Portal Vell, the original entrance to the villa that was built in the 16th century. The Portal Nou will give us access to the fishing neighbourhood in Altera, where we'll imagine the fisherman of the 19th century hauling in their nets.
From the Baluarte del Común, we'll enjoy some panoramic views from Calpe to Benidorm. Photo moment! We'll explore the Glorieta de Francisco Martínez and Martínez, and go up Calle de Santa Bárbara until we reach Casa Cervantes. At the bustling Plaza de la Iglesia, we'll admire Nuestra Señora del Consuelo Church and its iconic domes.
The next stop will be at the Cronista de España Viewpoint, where we'll enjoy some impressive views of Alta. We'll bring this free tour to an end at Calle San Miguel so that you can explore its shop and artisan workshops. Until next time!
