Come with us to explore the heart of Australia's central desert on this off-roading day trip to Palm Valley from Alice Springs. We'll visit hostile landscapes and take you to the edge of the Finke River, one of the oldest river systems in the world. You'll love it!
Day Trip Detail
At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Alice Springs to venture into the astonishing landscapes of the West MacDonnell mountain range on an off-roading vehicle. Ready for an adventure!
Onboard the cross-country vehicle, we'll drive down paths and trails that are difficult to access. After a 3-hour journey, we'll arrive at Hermannsburg, locally known as Ntaria, an aboriginal community known for its rich history and famous art collection, particularly the works of Albert Namatjira, a key figure. Here, we'll enjoy a delicious tea before continuing our day trip.
From here, our journey will then take us on a descent along the bed of the Finke River, considered one of the world's oldest rivers. You'll be amazed by the contrast between the arid landscape and the underground waters that bring these desert surroundings to life. Afterwards, we'll reach Palm Valley, where we'll find spectacular rock formations, white dunes, and an oasis of pools and palm springs. Plants like cycads and red cabbage palms, known worldwide as botanical relics, are unique treasures in this region of Australia.
Later on, we'll have a stop at the rock formation known as the Amphitheatre, the perfect spot to take some impressive photos. Next, we'll re-energise with a picnic with the food you have brought on the trip.
With full bellies, we'll begin our return journey to Alice Springs. Along the way, we'll enjoy views of the MacDonnell Ranges as the sun begins to set, painting the scenery with its warm hues.
After a total of 11 hours, this day trip will come to an end back at your hotel.
