Hassan Fathy Building Guided Tour
Tour Details
Located on the outskirts of Alcúdia, the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum is one of the main cultural references of northern Mallorca. This unique complex houses the Hassan Fathy Building, the Sculpture Park, OlivArt, and the Sokrates Gallery.
At the designated time, we'll begin our guided tour of the Spanish-Moorish-style building designed by the Egyptian architect Hasan Fathy for the weddings of artists Ben Jakober and Yannick Vu. Today, the foundation named after both creators manages the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum.
The Hassan Fathy Building, named this way to honor its architect, is located in a protected natural setting with views of Alcúdia Bay. During this tour, you'll explore the different rooms of this building, among which the library, home to over 10,000 books on art and design, stands out. You'll also see a 15th-century Mudéjar coffered ceiling and a Moroccan art room, which has an impressive lattice table called mashrabiya.
Throughout the tour, we'll also admire a chair collection designed by Antoni Miralda, Salvador Dalí, Frank Gehry, and Alan Rath, among others. You'll also marvel at a collection of modern and contemporary art, which houses artworks of renowned artists such as Miquel Barceló, El Anatsui, and Emily Kngwarreye.
The guided tour of the Hassan Fathy Building will take 1 hour and 15 minutes. Once the tour ends, you can explore two other spaces in the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum freely: the Sculpture Park and OlivArt.
The Sculpture Park is located in the museum's gardens. This special park displays large animal sculptures such as hippopotamuses, elephants, and rhinos. These colossal granite figures were created by Ben Jakober and Yannick Vu.
In the OlivArt, you'll see an olive grove with 22 olive trees, most of them centuries-old, among which the varieties Lechín de Sevilla, Picual, Grosal, and Hojiblanca stand out.
