Erice + Trapani Salt Pans Day Trip
Erice + Trapani Salt Pans Day Trip
Meet us at Café Castello in Piazza della Repubblica, and we'll set off headed toward Erice and the Trapani Salt Pans for a memorable day trip through the Sicilian region!
After a scenic 1-hour drive, we'll reach our first stop of the day - Erice! We'll start things off right with an exploration of the charming medieval town. Strolling through its cobblestone streets, we'll admire the iconic Tower of Venus and pause to savor the breathtaking panoramic views of the Egadi Islands from the summit. A picture-perfect moment indeed!
Next up, we'll head to the renowned Trapani Salt Pans, where artisanal salt production comes to life. As we meander along its banks, we'll be sure to take note of the mounds of salt and the dominating mills that shape the landscape. This site dates back to the 12th century when the Normans initiated the extraction of this "white gold." To add an additional layer to the experience, we'll also visit the Salt Museum, offering a deeper look into the historic landscape.
Built up an appetite? As we make our way back to the meeting point, we'll make a pit-stop at a bakery for the perfect afternoon delight: a cannoli! This traditional Sicilian sweet full of ricotta serves as the perfect finishing touch to an amazing day.
Then, we'll arrive back at the starting point in Alcamo, and part ways after a thrilling 5.5 hours.
