Day Trip to Alcalá de Henares
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Monument to Philip IV of Spain in Plaza de Oriente, Madrid. Once we're all ready, we'll hop on a bus and make our way to Alcalá de Henares.
After a 20-minute drive, we'll arrive at the World Heritage City. Here, we'll embark on a guided tour, passing iconic landmarks such as Alcalá de Henares Cathedral and the Neo-Mudéjar Palace of Laredo. As we admire each landmark we pass, we'll learn about their historical significance and hear interesting facts about their origins.
Next, we'll go to Calle Mayor, where we'll pass the old Hospital de Antenaza, considered to be one of the oldest health institutions in Spain, dating back to 1483! Right next to this building, we'll see the Museo Casa Natal de Cervantes, the Cervantes birthplace museum, where the literary genius was born. Did you know that Cervantes is widely considered to be the greatest writer in the Spanish language of all time?
We'll continue our tour with a visit to the University of Alcalá. We'll visit the auditorium where the Cervantes Prizes are awarded, the interior courtyards and the Chapel of San Ildefonso. Throughout our guided tour of the university, we'll admire beautiful architecture and learn about the university's rich history.
After exploring the University of Alcalá, we'll hop back on the bus for a 20-minute drive back to Madrid, arriving at the starting point after a total of 4 hours.
