If you're arriving at Akureyri by cruise ship, a trip to Godafoss Waterfall and Lake Mývatn is a must on any route through northern Iceland. You can't miss it!
Godafoss Waterfall & Lake Mývatn Shore Excursion
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the cruise terminal in Akureyri, and from there we'll start our excursion to Godafoss Waterfall and Lake Mývatn. We'll discover two must-see natural attractions in northern Iceland!
We'll drive along the coast of Eyjafjordur. Our first stop will be at the Godafoss Waterfall, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the country. You'll see why it's known as the "Waterfall of the Gods"!
On our way to Lake Mývatn, we'll take in the surrounding landscape dominated by volcanic formations such as lava pillars. Did you know that the lake was created by a large eruption of basaltic lava 2,300 years ago?
Afterwards, we'll visit the Grjótagjá Cave and see the Hverarönd hot springs area in Námaskarð. Here you'll have the opportunity to relax in the steam baths and even have a massage if you wish. Or, if you prefer, you can take advantage of this free time to have lunch at a local restaurant.
On the way back, we'll reach the Dimmuborgir lava formations, which are among the most popular tourist attractions on Lake Mývatn. We'll also stop at Skútustaðagígar, an area formed by pseudo craters. The last stop will be at Eyjafjordur, the longest fjord in northern Iceland!
Finally, we'll end the excursion by saying our goodbyes back at the meeting point in Akureyri 6 hours later.
