Godafoss & Lake Mývatn Day Trip
The Best of Northern Iceland: Godafoss & Lake Mývatn Tour from Akureyri
At the designated time, our team will pick you up from your hotel in Akureyri, setting the stage for a remarkable exploration of Godafoss Waterfall and the iconic Lake Mývatn. But first, we'll drive through some extraordinary locations in northern Iceland.
En route to Godafoss Waterfall, you'll be mesmerized by the natural beauty that surrounds us. Upon arrival, the grandeur of this waterfall considered one of the most beautiful in the country, will unfold before your eyes.
Standing at twelve meters (40 feet) in height and stretching thirty meters (100 feet) wide, the mighty waters of the Skjálfandafljót River cascade dramatically amidst a striking volcanic landscape. Fun fact: Godafoss holds historical significance as the starting point of Iceland's Christianization, marked by a dramatic tale we'll share with you. Locally, it's known as "the waterfall of the gods."
Next on our agenda is the volcanic region around Lake Mývatn. Here, we'll traverse ancient craters formed 2,300 years ago, explore a lava labyrinth, and encounter peculiar rock formations. We'll venture into a preserved cave, witness the cracks at Grjótagjá, and marvel at the mud pots of Hverir and the lava structures of Dimmuborgir. The panoramic views of the Akureyri fjord from this vantage point are truly stunning. Optionally, you'll be able to indulge in the natural baths of Mývatn.
After eight hours of exploration, we'll conclude the tour by returning you to your hotel, leaving you with memories of an unforgettable Icelandic adventure.
