Traveling to Cusco from Machu Picchu? Climb aboard a comfortable train for an incredible ride with extraordinary views of the Peruvian Andes!
Options
When booking you can choose the type of train you prefer to travel in from Machu Picchu to Cusco, a journey lasting from three and a half to four hours.
Expedition train
Aboard the Expedition train, you'll reach Cusco via one of the most spectacular train routes in the world. Thanks to the large windows of the cars, you'll be able to take in views of landscapes that will leave you speechless. Peruvian music in the background will also liven up the journey to the ancient capital of the Inca Empire. A unique train ride you don't want to miss!

- Expedition Train to San Pedro at 5:23 pm
- Expedition train to Poroy at 4:43 pm
Vistadome train
If you choose the Vistadome train, you'll travel in a more fun and original way. The carriages have panoramic windows on the walls and ceilings that will allow you to be immersed in the nature outside. While you enjoy the wonderful views, recorded commentary will explain all kinds of curiosities about the places we pass on the way to Cusco.
During the journey, you'll also be able to dance to the sound of Peruvian music and enjoy shows and typical dances of the region. You'll even be able to see an exclusive collection of baby alpaca garments. An exciting experience awaits!

Arrival stations
When you make your reservation, you'll be able to choose your preferred arrival station in Cusco:
- Wanchaq station: at 3:20 pm, 4:22 pm or 6:20 pm
- San Pedro Station: at 4:43 or 5:23 pm
- Poroy Station: at 3:20v 4:43 or 5:23 pm
Rainy season
From January to April, trains to and from Cusco do not operate regularly. If you want to book the activity, you can do it directly from Ollantaytambo through this link.
Limited availability
This activity takes place on board one of the most popular trains in Peru, with limited capacity. Thus, the availability of tickets to access the trains is limited. It may happen that there is no availability on the day you choose in your reservation. Therefore, we recommend that you book as far in advance as possible.
After making your reservation, within 72 hours we'll send you the official tickets that will allow you to access the trains.
Bimodal bus + train service
Until 30 April 2024, please note the following:
Due to operational issues, the tourist services that have Poroy and San Pedro stations as departure and arrival points, will operate according to their schedule, but with a bimodal service (bus + train).
The buses of the bimodal system run by PeruRail will transfer passengers on the Vistadome and Expedition services on frequencies 33, 31, 203, 34, 32 and 604 from Wanchaq station to Ollantaytambo station, and vice versa.
All passengers using the bimodal train services must present themselves at Wanchaq station at least 30 minutes in advance of the departure their each bus with their respective tickets.
However, trains on the Ollantaytambo - Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo route will continue to operate as usual without any changes.
