On this tour of the Valley of the Temples, we'll travel back to classical times to discover what life was like in ancient Akragas and visit buildings that inspired philosophers and poets!
Valley of the Temples Tour
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the ticket office of the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, where we'll start this tour of one of the best-preserved archaeological sites in Italy. It's also a World Heritage Site!
As we stroll through this incredible site, It'll feel like we have traveled back to classical times. The valley includes twelve temples, two agoras and a bouleuterion, where the boulé or council met.
This was the centre of ancient Akragas, as the first Greek settlement in Agrigento was known. We'll tour these structures that inspired poets, philosophers, and painters, uncovering their history and architectural features.
First, we'll visit the Temple of Juno and walk to the remains of the surrounding walls. Next, we'll go to the impressive Temple of Concordia, where we'll also see the remains of an early Christian necropolis.
We'll also pass by the Temple of Heracles and the remains of the Temple of Zeus as we explore some of the highlights of the classical mythological divinities to whom these sites were dedicated.
After this journey into the past in the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento, we'll return to the present to end the tour about 2 hours after the starting time.
