Kumasi Day Trip
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Accra to start this excursion to Kumasi. Ready to visit the main attractions of the "Garden City"? Let's go!
Our first stop will be at the Manhyia Palace Museum, where we'll learn about the history of the Ashanti people by watching a documentary. There, we'll visit the original rooms and chambers of the palace to better understand the significance of the Ashanti Empire. Who was Yaa Asantewaa and why was his role so important in the Ashanti rebellion?
Afterwards, we'll visit the Okomfo Anokye Sword Site to learn about the founding history of the Ashanti nation. Did you know that this is the site of the immovable sword of Okomfo Anokye? The story goes that it was driven into the ground almost 300 years ago and no one has yet been able to dislodge it. Moreover, it's believed that the Ashanti state would crumble if they ever managed to pull it out of the ground!
Before we continue, we'll take a break so you can have lunch on your own. Then, we'll stop at the Prempeh II Museum, which is a replica of an Ashanti Empire chief's house. There, we'll see the ceremonial clothing of this ethnic group, as well as jewelry, protective amulets, personal items, furniture, and even royal regalia. We'll also immerse ourselves in the local life at the Kejetia Market, one of the largest in Ghana.
On the way back to Accra, we'll visit the Bonwire Kente Weaving Centre, where Africa's most popular fabric, known as "kente", originated. The king of Ashanti himself used this fabric. You'll fall in love with its colors!
After 15 hours of excursion, we'll be back at your accommodation in Accra.
