Thessaloniki Guided Tour
Tour Details
At the appointed time we'll meet in front of the Electra Palace Thessaloniki hotel and from there we'll start our guided tour of Thessaloniki, the second most important city in Greece.
First up, we'll walk to the White Tower, the undisputed emblem of Thessaloniki. This building was part of the city wall, destroyed in 1866, and had a dual function: to serve as a defensive tower, given its location facing the sea, and to be used as a prison.
Next, we'll see the equestrian statue of Alexander the Great, a tribute to the city's most famous historical figure, which was erected in 1973. This sculpture of the former King of Macedonia is 6 meters (19 feet) high and stands on a 5-meter (15 feet) high marble pedestal.
After reviewing the history of this personage, we'll pass by the OTE Tower, a 76-metre (249 feet) high telecommunications building. We'll tell you about its importance while we go into the past by seeing the ruins of the Palace of Galerius, the Arch of Galerius, and the ancient Roman Forum.
Finally, we'll discover the Byzantine churches of the Acheiropoietos and San Demetrio. The latter is part of the Paleochristian and Byzantine Monuments of Thessaloniki and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1988.
Lastly, we'll say goodbye at the starting point, 2 hours after the start of the activity.
