Spring is here and soon meadows all over the globe will be covered in a blanket of rich colors. Here at Civitatis, we’ve compiled a list of the top flower fields in the world, filled with tulips, poppies, sunflowers, and many other varieties of flowers. If you’re traveling to any of these destinations, you cannot miss out on this treat for the eyes.

Keukenhof, The Netherlands

Keukenhof, the iconic tulip garden in the Netherlands, must be on the list of the most spectacular flower fields in the world. Strolling among its lakes, windmills, and forests is a unique experience you cannot skip if you travel to the Netherlands. The gardens are located in Lisse, but you can also get there on a day-trip from Amsterdam, Rotterdam, or The Hague.

The best time to visit Keukenhof is mid-May, when the tulip fields bloom.

Lavender fields in Provence, France

Long stretches of purple cover the fields of French Provence during the Spring months. These stunning lavender meadows and the surrounding villages inspired some of the most prominent Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters, such as Cezanne, Pissarro, and even Van Gogh. If you’re in Aix-en-Provence, you can visit them on this tour.

Fuji Shibazakura, Japan

At the base of Mount Fuji, we can find one of the most spectacular flower fields in the world. In the months of April and May, these pink, magenta, and white Shibazakura flowers grow in Japanese meadows, where the Fuji Shibazakura Festival is held every year. There, you can stroll through this pink lawn and soak up the beauty of Japan‘s most well-known mountain.

Miracle Garden, Dubai

Can you picture a field of flowers right in the middle of the desert? It sounds impossible, right? Well, if you go to Dubai, you’ll find that this is definitely feasible. In Dubai’s Miracle Garden, you can see the largest floral tapestry in the world. Over 150 million flowers cover its 72,000 square meters (775,001 square feet), as well as a myriad of sculptures and even an airplane!

Hitachi, Japan

Ever heard of nemophilas? They’re tiny blue flowers whose appearance marks the transition from Spring to Summer. In Anglo-Saxon countries, they are known as ‘baby blue eyes,’ and in Japan, we can find them in the Hitachi Coastal Park. This space occupies almost 190 hectares (469 acres) and houses several gardens full of these little flowers, along with tulips, crocuses, and daffodils.

Sunflower fields in Tuscany, Italy

Although Tuscany is known for its vineyards, this region in Italy is also home to beautiful flower-covered places such as the sunflower fields of the Orcia and Era valleys. With the arrival of Spring, these meadows become tinted golden, creating a striking contrast with the green Tuscan cypresses.

Poppy fields in Zamora, Spain

Did you know that Spain is among the top three poppy-producing countries? Just a couple of years ago, the image of one of the poppy meadows in the province of Zamora became so popular that we now include it in the list of the most spectacular flower fields in the world. The scarlet tapestry these delicate flowers create has attracted many visitors since then, and even some well-known influencers have shared the beauty with their followers.

Canola fields in Luoping, China

In Luoping County, eastern China, a vast sea of yellow emerges between February and March. These are the unique fields of canola or rapeseed, the flower from which rapeseed oil is extracted, which stretch as far as the eye can see and have become a favorite destination for Japanese photographers. These bright flowers attract lots of bees, so the fields are also an important honey-producing area.

Atacama Desert, Chile

A peculiar natural phenomenon occurs in the Atacama Desert in Chile every few years: flowers burst to life in one of the world’s driest areas. This unusual occurrence is called “desert in bloom” and occurs when rainfall is more intense than usual. Among the cracks, about 200 species of native flowers emerge, such as sighs, dondiegos, and lilies.

The tulips of the Skagit Valley in Washington make this one of the most spectacular flower fields in the world. Locals celebrate the annual Tulip Festival with fairs, art exhibits, and tastings to showcase these stunning flowers.
