The Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, located on the banks of the Ebro River, is the most important temple in the city. Home of the Patron Saint of Hispanidad, this basilica built in the 17th century has some incredible Baroque architecture worth admiring.

Before the basilica we see today existed, other temples stood in this same spot. In fact, according to tradition, it was here where the Virgin Mary appeared to the apostle Santiago when he was preaching in these lands. Consequently, the first chapel was erected in honor of ‘Our Lady of the Pillar’ around 2000 years ago.

If you’re wondering what to do on a Sunday in Zaragoza, we suggest taking a tour of this monument and learning more about its history. Additionally, there are many other historic buildings you can discover too, such as the Cathedral of San Salvador, the Roman Theater and the Puerta Cinegia Market.
