Top 10: Where to Travel in August 2025

Booking your next trip in August and not quite sure where to go? August is one of the most popular months to travel in the Northern Hemisphere. Many countries enjoy some of their best weather as Summer draws to a close, and many of the old reliable destinations are jam-packed with tourists. Today at Civitatis, we’re looking at the very best places to travel in August. 1. Ireland

Ah, Ireland. In August, the majestic Emerald Isle truly comes into its own, usually enjoying some of its peak sunshine and magical long evenings. If you do decide to visit Ireland in August, we recommend making the most of the (hopefully) nice weather and making your way to the vast and beautiful countryside, where you also won’t face the same crowds as in the country’s capital. 2. Šibenik, Croatia

Of course, Croatia as a whole experiences some of its highest levels of tourism at this time of year, especially in the hotspots of Split, Dubrovnik, and Zagreb. However, there are plenty of ‘undiscovered gems’ across the country which don’t receive quite as much attention, even during peak season. One of our favorite places to visit in Croatia is the charming city of Šibenik. The oldest city in the Adriatic, Šibenik, has a storied history and boasts wonderful architecture, incredible sea views, and plenty of great restaurants to choose from. 3. Fiji

Fiji might just be the perfect August destination. At this time of year, the average temperature teeters around 79°F (26°C), and Fiji is right in the middle of the dry season. August would be considered peak season, so many of the hotspots will be busy. As such, make all of your bookings as far in advance of your trip as possible.

4. Cyprus

One of the hottest months of the year in Cyprus (83°F–93°F/28°C–34°C), August is the time to visit if you fancy basking in the sun or enjoying water sports on the country’s beaches—some of which are ranked among the best in the world. 5. Edinburgh, Scotland

Though busy, the (generally) drier and more pleasant weather alone makes an August trip to Edinburgh’s cobbled streets worthwhile. However, the main reason to visit this historic Scottish city in August is the fantastic Edinburgh Festival. A slightly confusing name, the Edinburgh Festival refers to a number of independent events which are held from June to September. The most famous festivals (both of which take place throughout August) are the Edinburgh International Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival—the largest performing arts festival in the world. However, the city is host to book festivals, jazz festivals, film festivals, and much more.

6. Nairobi, Kenya

Right in the middle of Kenya’s dry season and one of the cooler months of the year, August is the prime time to visit the bustling Kenyan capital city: Nairobi. Learn about the city’s fascinating history on this guided tour of Nairobi.

7. Paris, France

Paris is a lovely place to visit in August. While it’s true that many locals leave the city in August, and you’ll be faced with a long line at the major tourist attractions, that doesn’t mean that it’s to be avoided! At this time of year, the city enjoys some of its warmest weather, clear skies, and blooming flowers. Every summer, the riverbanks that run along the mighty Seine are converted into a beach resort! 8. London, England

August is the end of peak season in London and is generally one of the hottest months of the year. Other than the warm weather, London is host to a number of cultural events in the month of August. Perhaps the most famous is Notting Hill Carnival—Europe’s largest street festival, celebrating Caribbean culture with colorful parades, music, dance, and wonderful food!

9. Bilbao, Spain

With most of Spain subject to the sweltering heat of the Summer sun, the northern coast of Spain is a great option during the month of August. In Bilbao, for example, it’ll be warm during the day (30°C/86°F), though extreme heat is uncommon, and temperatures drop during the evening.

Bilbao is a fascinating city to visit at any time of the year, boasting an incredible combination of old and new, as well as a huge selection of fantastic restaurants. 10. Buenos Aires, Argentina

Despite being winter in Buenos Aires, temperatures are definitely manageable, generally staying around 46–62°F (8–16°C). Being off-season, August is a great time to visit Buenos Aires’ key landmarks, without being subjected to long queues!
